With locations in Montréal and Vancouver, this organization supports researchers and new entrepreneurs in fulfilling their ambitions. Deeply involved in many levels in Quebec’s life sciences ecosystem, adMare is now another BIOQuébec partner. Learn about this industry stakeholder!

An Alliance Bringing Experts Together

The company now known as adMare BioInnovations was created through the merger of three drug development centres of excellence:

·         The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) in Vancouver

·         The NEOMED Institute in Montréal

·         Accel-Rx, a life sciences and medtech pre-seed and seed investment fund in Vancouver

These three organizations joined forces to provide support, expertise, and capital to young businesses.

Building, Supporting, and Training: adMare’s Three Missions!

Three key elements serve as the basis upon which adMare focuses: building new companies, supporting entrepreneurs, and training personnel. The organization has everything needed to support pre-seed phases: capital, expertise, infrastructure, and an extensive national and international network.

Supporting Researchers and New Entrepreneurs in Building Their Business

Academic research leads to a host of discoveries that serve as the basis for tangible innovations. However, the road from idea to commercialization can be long and difficult.

When guiding researchers through the critical steps of creating a company and securing financing, adMare provides start-up assistance, data validation, and drug development expertise.

For adMare, a key point is that researchers remain at the core of their projects throughout the process. The ideas continue to be theirs, and they are involved in all stages of their company's launch.

Guiding Entrepreneurs: The Core of Its Mission

To support entrepreneurs who need help securing financing or attracting investments, adMare happily welcomes entrepreneurs and shares its expertise and knowledge to further foster their growth.

Training the Next Generation of Highly-Skilled Professionals

The third pillar in adMare’s mission is training the next generation of entrepreneurial researchers. The adMare Academy offers a wide array of customized, high-level programs to provide the Canadian life sciences industry with qualified personnel, skilled in science and management, so that it can become a world leader.

"We are working to keep companies here in Quebec and Canada. While we want to attract foreign investment, our goal is to have investors realize that we have everything that’s needed for companies to grow and succeed.” - Mounia Azzi, Vice President, Program Development and Partnerships.

A Large Portfolio

Since its inception, adMare has helped several companies to flourish, including Zymeworks, Bellus Health, Inversago Pharma, ImStar Therapeutics, Neurasic Therapeutics, and Find Therapeutic. Among the resident companies at its Montréal innovation centre is Paraza, a CRO that opened in 2013 with eight employees; it now has over 150 people on staff.

To achieve its objectives, adMare does not work alone. It collaborates with venture capitalists, research institutes, development support firms, technology transfer companies, and researchers to benefit a project by optimizing its intellectual, commercial, and financial approaches.

An Infrastructure that Promotes Knowledge Sharing

While it operates out of two facilities (one in Vancouver and one in Montréal), each of adMare’s locations features a large team of seasoned scientists who assist young companies in their development.  They establish key milestones in idea commercialization, such as analyzing formulations, pharmaceutical development, and industrial scaling.

Teams specialized in business development, commercial development, law, and marketing work with these entrepreneurial researchers to help them overcome the hurdles/risks involved in the various stages of drug discovery or commercialization.

The adMare workspaces have been designed to promote the sharing of ideas between newer entrepreneurs and those with more experience. In addition to providing shared services, the hub hosts networking events for its resident companies and offers scientific presentations to stimulate ideas and discussions.
