Moderna Manufacturing Facility Opening in Montréal

Moderna announced on Friday that it had chosen Montréal as the location for its vaccine manufacturing facility. It will be able to produce 100 million doses per year and provide jobs for hundreds of specialized workers.

This announcement is excellent news for Quebec’s life sciences industry. The construction of Modern’s facility in Montréal is an acknowledgement of our sector’s vitality and will contribute to our ecosystem’s growth by being a catalyst to attract other businesses to Quebec. Increasing Canada’s biomanufacturing capabilities to ensure our independence has been a significant concern for the country,” stated Anie Perrault, BIOQuébec’s Executive Director.

In addition, Moderna will invest millions of dollars in research and development by collaborating with McGill University to provide access to mRNA. This agreement will expedite the development of new and innovative treatments.

BIOQuébec welcomes Moderna’s arrival in Quebec, which is the result of proactive work by the federal and provincial governments. Congratulations to Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, and Patricia Gauthier, Moderna’s Country General Manager, on this excellent news.
