Breakthrough in the fight against morphine and Fentanyl addiction
A discovery made by the research team led by Yves De Koninck, of the Institut universitaire de santé mentale de Québec (USMQ), could allow addicts to free themselves from their dependence without any withdrawal symptoms and without affecting the painkilling effects of morphine and its derivatives.
The mechanism causing the withdrawal syndrome was discovered, and two drugs which would reduce its effects have been tested. However, psychological support is necessary for people to successfully break free of their addiction.
